What counts as temporary works?
The BS 5975:2024 support page is the short orientation: a procedure people use, a register, TWC and TWS roles, design briefs, check categories and the permit-to-load flow. The compliance article sets out the same ground in more detail for 2026, including the split into BS 5975-1:2024 (management) and BS 5975-2:2024 (falsework).

How do I write a temporary works design brief?
The design page says a brief should give the designer enough to work without chasing information. The online brief asks for the contract and client, what the temporary works are for, the check category if known, and the site, ground and permanent-works information you already hold. Partial information is accepted on that form.

What are check categories 0 to 3?
The design-checking page explains the four categories with reference to BS 5975:2024. Category 0 is a standard solution and category 1 a simple design, often checked inside the same organisation. Category 2 is checked by someone not involved in the original design. Category 3 is an independent check by a separate organisation. The project's designated individual and temporary works procedure set the category.

What is BR 470 for working platforms?
The working-platforms page assesses platforms, piling mats and crane mats with reference to BR 470 (Working Platforms for Tracked Plant), subject to project-specific ground information. The free BRE470 designer runs the calculations in the browser. The paid Official Design Pack on that page is a signed output and is not part of this hub's sponsor space.

Where are the free books and practice exams?
Mastering Temporary Works volumes 1, 2 and 3 are free PDF downloads: foundations and roles, design control and permits, then contractor control and standard solutions.
